Etymology  Gehyra: unknown.
moritzi: "The specific name recognises the contribution of Dr Craig Moritz (Australian National University, Canberra, and University of California, Berkeley) in revealing the high level of karyotypic and morphological diversity among central Australian populations of Gehyra."1
