Etymology  Tympanocryptis: 'hidden ear'.
pseudopsephos: "pseudopsephos means ‘false pebble’, with pseudo Latin for ‘false’ and psephos is Greek for ‘pebble’. The name is an allusion to the pebble-mimicking abilities of this species." (Doughty, Kealley, Shoo & Melville 2015)
