Pronunciation  crock-oh-DILL-uss   JOHN-ston-ee
Etymology  Crocodylus: 'crocodile'.
johnstoni: after Mr Johnston, the first European to report it to science. Krefft repeatedly mis-spelled the species name as "johnsoni" in his initial description, but later corrected it. According to the rules of the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature the original, unintentional name is the correct name, but most people and publications use "johnstoni" as Krefft had intended.

Range

Coast and hinterland of northern and north-eastern Australia.

Found in the following Australian states/territories

Northern Territory, Queensland, Western Australia

Habitat

Generally confined to permanent freshwater rivers, lagoons and billabongs.
