Etymology  Phyllurus: 'leaf tail', refering to the distinctive shape of the tails of the original species in this genus.
gulbaru: "'Gulbaru' is the Aboriginal language name for the Paluma Range...The epithet is to be treated as a noun in apposition."1

Range

Known only from a few sites at the southern end of the Paluma Range in Queensland.
